People rely on wood for fire because infrastructure for electricity is still too expensive to set up and fossil fuels are expensive and hard to come by. The company will be focused on using existing technology as well as innovating on wood burning techniques that allow for more efficient burning of a fuel source that many around the world still have to rely on. We will sell higher quality products in markets where people can afford it and use the revenue generated to research and develop new more efficient techniques, for burnt fuel but also alternatives that benefit those in underdeveloped economies.
Making of the equipment could lead to skilled jobs created in developing countries.it is also A matter of gender equality, collection of wood tends to be a burden mostly placed on the shoulders of young women, taking away from time that could have been spent in class. Entrepreneurship or even business in general for some comes with the connotation of self-interest, something pursued by the greedy in society. This is especially true for those who may have had anti-capitalist influencers in their life. They are told of all the ills that occur at the hands of business leaders and the stakeholders that support them. So, when the time comes for these people to join the world of business, they tell themselves that they will be different, or better yet they will be the difference. These people feel the need to justify themselves, and their field of work. Claiming your goal is to change the world or to have some sort of impact is often how the profession is justified. This derivative mission has led to the development of a culture that promotes workaholics, because your hard work at the expense of relationships and health, is not for your own gain, no you’re doing this for the world.
Jessica stillman’s article wants to show that this is not the only path in business, and she dos this by referencing an article by business leader Lauren Bacon. Bacon’s article is a ‘counter cultural’ push back that says no to the unreasonable demand of a hustle culture with no real value provided to the entrepreneur. Lauren sees life outside the workplace as also having value and that it is necessary. https://www.inc.com/jessica-stillman/why-you-should-wear-phrase-lifestyle-business-as-a-badge-of-honor.html In the article when ‘faced with progressive business stay skeptical’, the author considers the historical perspective on business and the responsibilities of those on top, how perspectives changed with a change in demographics and how influential experts pushed the public to a certain way of thinking. The article points to the book, ‘The American Business creed’, as an early example of attempts to classify the different perspectives on the role of business leaders. There were two classifications in the creed one was the classical which was more individualistic and relied on greed, and the other was the managerial which saw business leadership as more of a position of stewardship. I think its important that the author point out how different times led to different circumstances as the populations bargaining power changes.
https://aeon.co/ideas/when-faced-with-so-called-progressive-business-stay-skeptical Many feel disenfranchised because of globalisation and the efficiencies it brings, efficiencies which often mean unemployment for a workforce that is deemed replaceable. However, it is not only job threatened employees who are affected by the flexibility of globalised production and distribution systems. All across society, except for maybe the primary beneficiaries of this system, find their bargaining power diminished. Industrial Countries must compete with tax heavens for capital generated within their borders, labour as mentioned earlier will need to either be cut or operate with reduced real wages, and even shelter is speculated on by multinationals who may never live in it.
In all this the individual feels powerless, even those in supposed positions of power feel like they can not control the machines they help prop up. To a world where competition has led to such developments the only clear solution is to compete, but with good intentions. Social entrepreneurship is about having a voice in an increasingly noisy global marketplace; to impose one’s ethics on the soulless business world. Social entrepreneurship: finding and creating opportunities motivated primarily by nonmonetary reasons, i.e., from a place of altruism or concern for the wellbeing of themselves or others.
